October is Black History Month. Across the world, people celebrate the contribution and history of the Black community.
Following last years events on campus including the widely successful Black Men on the Couch, a new series of events will be coming to campus throughout Black History Month.
Throughout October, the Kimberlin Library will be showing an exhibition in the foyer about the extraordinary life of ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥ alumnus Oronto Douglas, Environmental and Human Rights Lawyer titled “Fighting for the Niger Delta”.

Black History Month: Coconuts & CocoNOTS: Police Racism, Protest, and the Right to Satire
Friday 14th November, 5pm-9pm
Trinity House Chapel
This in-person event problematises a set of practices adopted by conservative social forces to employ anti-discrimination regulations as a tool to delegitimize and criminalise anti-racist advocacy within public discourse.
The event will look at the recent case of Miss Marieha Hussain, who was put on trial alongside four other activists for displaying a satirical placard labelling former prime minster Rishi Sunak and former home secretary Suella Braverman as “coconuts” during a pro-Palestine rally in November 2023. Miss Hussain will be in attendance alongside her lawyer Rajiv Menon.
